The inspiration for the “Instrumental Documentation" series comes from my struggles due to Autism and the inability to recognize emotions, their subtleties and textures on account of having Alexithymia. Random interactions are extremely hard for me to interpret and process quickly. With my street photography, I am using a slowed-down shutter speed to allow each image to attain and process additional information, similar to how my brain is constantly absorbing an increased volume of stimuli in all moments. The blurred individuals are symbolic of the inability I have in processing visual body language, subtle facial cues, and largely people’s intentions. This series is a collection of documentative fine art photography of my battle between fear of interaction and my longing for connectivity. Hesitation, shivering, withdrawal, and half-stepping are the dance moves to the instrumental play of my camera as I work towards involvement and inclusion with those around me.
